Projects: Education

VR4U, Social Enterprise

Ongoing

Today, an extraordinary number of American youth suffer from mental health issues which have greatly affected their daily life.

VR4U is a student-led social enterprise incubated at Stanford's Social Enterprise Workshop. We wish to connect youths, especially those from low-income households, with VR mental health solutions. We are currently preparing for our one-month pilot program within the Stanford community for impact & risk evaluations.

Design for Overseas Immigrants, Stanford d.school project

It is just so common for us to get "lost in translation" when someone first come to a strange country.

During this design project, Sharon collaborated with 2 Stanford students from the engineering school and delivered a NFP prototype based on one-to-one in-depth interviews with overseas immigrants who struggled with language challenges to different degrees.

Racism in the Time of Coronavirus, Academic Panel

Apr 2020 - Jun 2020

Covid-19 undeniably fuels the rise of racism towards Asians. An extraordinary number of hate crimes had been reported right at the very beginning of the pandemic.

Sharon co-organized this academic panel with one of her fellow students at LSE. The aim of this panel was to trace the sources of such hate crimes by drawing parallels between history and the present. As such, she invited world-renowned scholars in the field of the medical history & medical anthropology to speak on how people's illness experiences had been shaped by larger economic and political forces both in historical and contemporary contexts.

Dream of Sahara, Charity Fundraising Program

Apr 2018 - Jun 2018

Children in Merzouga (Morocco) barely had any "room" for their education. What's worse, girls often drop out of school before even finishing the primary education. Having a polygyny system indicates that fathers often only spend most their time with one of their wives and her children but ignore the others.

Following her visit to Merzouga as a volunteer teacher, Sharon decided to do something more. In order to reach out to more people, she cooperated with student unions at LSE and at Florida University for marketing and promoting awareness of this issue. This project ended up with receiving over 2,400 Euros which was sufficient for the first phase of new school construction in Merzouga.
